This is one of my new favorite recipes to keep on hand for a soothing hot beverage to sip, to fight inflammation, and to boost the immune system. It’s easy to make and absolutely brimming with health-promoting ingredients. Both ginger and turmeric have extraordinary anti-inflammatory effects. Ginger has also been found to support a health immune system, something we can all use this winter season! Add some local, raw honey before serving, and you’ll have another lovely immune and allergy blaster.

Ginger Turmeric Health Tonic

Makes about 4, ½ cup servings

1 Tbsp freshly grated ginger

1 Tbsp freshly grated turmeric

sprinkle cayenne

juice of one lemon + rind

3 cups filtered water

Combine all ingredients in a smalls sauce pan. Bring to a simmer and then simmer for about 5 minutes, uncovered. Strain and allow to cool before storing in a glass jar. The turmeric has a particular ability to “dye” most things it touches, so glass tends to be best! Store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. To serve, portion into a mug to heat; add a bit of water as needed to reduce the intensity, and stir in a bit of honey before sipping, if desired.

I recommend trying this as a new start or end to your day for an improved immune system and potentially even some reductions in aches and pains.
