  4. Behavior counseling

Each of these disciplines are vital aspects of your overall health.  Incorporating all four makes for the best formula for success in your wellness and weight loss journey.  Unfortunately, physical activity is often the one piece that’s commonly neglected.  You might be wondering, can it really help achieve my weight loss goals?  Or does it really have that big of an impact on my daily health?  The answer is YES!  Let’s explore how exercise plays a crucial role in weight loss and wellness.

Increase Your Metabolism

Metabolism’ is the rate at which calories are burned when your body is at rest.  These are the calories that are necessary to support your biological functions. Knowing this, it makes sense that a faster metabolism would mean more calories are burned throughout the day.  But did you know that you can actually increase your metabolism by exercising?  That’s right – through routine exercise and strengthening your muscles, you can increase what is known as your resting metabolic rate to achieve weight loss goals and improve your overall health.  Stay tuned for our next fitness post to find out some of the best ways to exercise in order to ramp up that metabolic rate!

Create a Caloric Deficit

Weight loss occurs when your body uses more energy than it takes in.  If your goal is to consistently lose weight, then you’ll need to increase the amount of calories your body uses. Scientific guidelines suggest that in order to lose healthy amounts of fat mass weekly, a person must work towards a net loss of 500 calories per day, or a loss of 3,500 calories/week.  Because it’s also very important to keep caloric intake at a safe and sustainable level through your nutrition, expending calories through activity is a safe and effective method. Becoming active in the beginning of a weight loss program is crucial – it allows you to sidestep a stall in your progress after a few weeks and keeps your motivation strong!Aside from supporting weight loss, increasing activity levels benefits your health in countless other ways — improving mood, boosting energy, aiding sleep, increasing bone density, reducing or eliminating aches and pains, the list goes on.  Now that you know some of the benefits, let’s get moving!Corelife’s fitness program is designed to enhance functionality through a mindful and movement based approach.  Our program focuses on healthy pain-free movement so that daily movement and exercise enhance your overall health and well being!  Schedule a free CoreLife consultation to learn more.   Contact your local CoreLife trainer with any questions about these or any exercises!
